Who you’ll work with

Our team

We are trainers and clinicians who have spent years in community mental health, shelters, recovery, and peer support. Our trainings blend professional and lived experience with research and best practices, and we teach in an active and participatory style.

Jesse Jonesberg, smiling, in a plaid shirt.

Jesse Jonesberg, MSW, LCSW, CPS

Lead Trainer & LCSW Supervisor

Jesse has spent more than 20 years in community mental health, working directly with people and training the teams who support them. He’s a neurodivergent therapist and social worker, and that experience shapes how he teaches: conversational, practical, and with plenty of room for people to learn in their own way.

Jesse is a long-time member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider, a certified Brainspotting therapist, and a Certified Peer Specialist who serves on the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Certified Peer Specialist Advisory Committee. He has supervised peer support staff, and he uses his own story to help others heal, in peer work and in therapy sessions. He is trained in Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy (SCIP). He is an approved clinical supervisor in Wisconsin and Missouri, has provided clinical supervision for 8 years, and supervises social workers toward Wisconsin LCSW licensure.

Around Milwaukee, Jesse also works as a contract therapist, clinical supervisor, and trainer with Wisconsin Community Services, supports NAMI Southeast Wisconsin, and teaches through Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee (SWIM).

He has taught an advanced two-day graduate course in Motivational Interviewing, and led many other trainings, at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. He teaches with Shaina through UW–Madison Continuing Education and has presented at the 2025 Great Lakes Motivational Interviewing Conference and the NASW Wisconsin Chapter annual conference. He also writes for the WISE Initiative for Stigma Elimination blog, including Thoughts From a Wounded Healer and Structurally Engineered Trauma in Mental Health; the wounded healer piece also appears on the Elevated Life Academy blog. He was a guest on the A Good Omen podcast, talking about self-compassion, cultural humility and Motivational Interviewing.

He cares a lot about the people doing helping work, and about making sure they have the skills and support to keep doing it well.

Shaina Buckner, smiling, wearing a knit hat.

Shaina Buckner, MSW, APSW

Trainer, Coach, Consultant

Shaina is an APSW trainer and therapist with nearly a decade of experience in trauma-informed care. A noncombat Navy veteran, she left active duty with a desire to serve in more meaningful ways and eventually built a grant-funded role at a nonprofit supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Shaina is an experienced trainer on topics related to neurodivergence, trauma, cultural humility, and the application of motivational interviewing. With Jesse, she co-presented a neuroaffirming MI session at the 2025 Great Lakes Motivational Interviewing Conference and teaches Motivational Interviewing and Brainspotting skills through UW–Madison Continuing Education.

As a late-diagnosed AuDHD woman of European and West African descent and a member of the asexual community, she often works with neurodivergent adult women navigating similar histories. Shaina creates a comfortable, collaborative space for clients to reconnect with themselves—exploring their voice, body signals, values, boundaries and interests. Her work centers on authenticity, empowerment and helping people feel safe to be fully themselves.
