Training for Milwaukee and Wisconsin teams

Neurodiversity Training for Helping Professionals

Your team is already working with autistic and ADHD people every day, and many of them have never been diagnosed. They often get written up as “non-compliant” or “unmotivated.” Neuroaffirming care asks a different question: not “how do we get them to comply?” but “what is this person’s brain doing, and what would help?”

Training at a glance

Format
Virtual anywhere, or in person at your agency. Most of the time goes to practice: real plays, role plays, and small-group discussion.
Duration
Most trainings run four hours. Two half-days or two full days leave room for case discussion and for looking at your policies and environment.
Group size
Teams of 8 to 25 tend to work best. Larger group? Let’s talk about what would fit.
Pricing
Priced for the whole group, not per person. Discounted rates may be available in special circumstances.
Travel
In person up to about three hours from Milwaukee. Travel expenses are agreed with you up front.
Follow-up
Boosters and refreshers are available, and we can help your team carry small changes into everyday practice.
Continuing education
CE credit may be available as an add-on, at an additional cost. Ask us what’s possible for your group.

What your team will leave with

  • A clearer picture of how neurodivergence shows up, and why it matters for your services and your workplace culture
  • Understanding of experiences like masking, stimming, shutdown, meltdown, rejection sensitivity, executive dysfunction, and demand avoidance
  • Practical skills for interactions that feel safer and work better
  • Ways to support neurodivergent coworkers, who are a bigger part of the helping workforce than most people realize
  • Language and small changes to your space that build trust with clients and staff

Why it matters

Neurodivergent people show up a lot in behavioral health, recovery, housing, child welfare, and justice settings. Services built around changing behavior often don’t fit them well. That can look like missed appointments, early discharges, and people quietly wearing themselves out trying to mask. When the fit is better, people are more likely to stay connected to the help they need.

Where we’re coming from

This training is led by neurodivergent trainers with lived experience of ADHD, AuDHD, and more. We teach the way we’d want to be taught: varied activities, no forced participation, no eye-contact policing, real breaks, and materials ahead of time for people who like to read first.

Lead trainer Jesse Jonesberg, MSW, LCSW, CPS, is a neurodivergent clinician, a Certified Peer Specialist, and an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider with more than 20 years in community mental health and training. With Shaina Buckner, he co-presented “Neuroaffirming MI: transforming MI from a tool of compliance to a tool for liberation and healing” at the 2025 Great Lakes Motivational Interviewing Conference.

Questions teams ask

How long is the training?

Most trainings run four hours. Two half-days or two full days leave room for case discussion and for looking at your policies and environment.

What does it cost?

Training is priced for the whole group, not per person. Ask us about rates when we talk; discounted rates may be available in special circumstances, based on your organization’s needs.

How many people can attend?

Teams of 8 to 25 tend to work best. Larger group? Let’s talk about what would fit.

Can we do it virtually, or in person?

Virtual anywhere, or in person at your agency. We travel up to about three hours from Milwaukee, which includes Madison, the Fox Valley, and Green Bay; travel expenses are agreed with you up front.

Is continuing education (CE) credit available?

CE credit may be available as an add-on, at an additional cost. Ask us what’s possible for your group.

Can you shape it around our team?

Yes. Every training starts with a conversation about who your team serves, what’s getting in the way, and what you hope will change. Then we shape the training around that, and stay flexible on length and format.
